How to Find the Goons in Tarkov: Rotation and Live Tracking Guide 2026

The Goons are the most hunted boss squad in Escape from Tarkov, and also the most frustrating to find. Unlike other bosses, they do not live on one map. They rotate, and finding them on the right map at the right time is half the battle. Here is how tracking them actually works in 2026.

Who You Are Hunting

  • Knight, the leader, who coordinates the squad and pushes aggressively
  • Big Pipe, the heavy, who carries a grenade launcher and will happily use it the moment you take cover
  • Birdeye, the sniper, who moves quietly and punishes you from range while his squadmates hold your attention

They move as a trio. If you have spotted one of them, the other two are nearby, and fighting them piecemeal is the only realistic way to win.

The Rotation Problem

The Goons rotate between Customs, Shoreline, Woods, and Lighthouse. There is no in-game way to see where they currently are, which is why the community relies on crowd-sourced sighting trackers. When players encounter the squad, they report the map, and sightings tend to cluster on one map for a stretch before reports start coming in from a different one.

That is exactly what our free Goon Tracker on TarkovForge does. Players report sightings with a map and the community sees where recent reports are stacking up. Check it before you queue, and if you run into the squad yourself, take five seconds after the raid to report it. Every report makes the next player's hunt shorter.

How to Use Sightings Well

  • Recent reports beat old reports, so weight the last few hours over yesterday's cluster
  • Multiple independent reports on one map are a much stronger signal than a single sighting
  • No recent reports anywhere usually means fewer people are hunting, not that the Goons vanished
  • If you need them for a quest, commit to the most-reported map for several raids instead of map-hopping after every empty run

Surviving the Fight

Finding the Goons is one problem. The fight itself is another, and it is one of the hardest in the game.

  • Fight from hard cover, since Big Pipe's grenade launcher makes soft cover a death sentence
  • Try to isolate one target at a time instead of trading with all three at once
  • Assume Birdeye has an angle on you whenever you push the other two
  • Bring meds and ammo for a long fight, because they are tanky and they reposition
  • Third-partying an ongoing Goons fight is legitimately the easiest way to get the kills

Why Bother

Beyond the loot and the bragging rights, the squad is required for Jaeger's Stray Dogs quest, which asks you to eliminate all three. That quest alone keeps the Goon-hunting economy alive every wipe.

Check the tracker, pick your map, and go get them. And when you do find them, win or lose, report the sighting. See you in Tarkov.
