BEAR
Russia's answer to TerraGroup, forged from ex-special forces
The Battle Encounter Assault Regiment, BEAR, was established by a secret decree of the Russian government as a direct countermeasure to TerraGroup's illegal activities on Russian soil. Its ranks were filled with ex-special forces officers drawn from across the former Soviet states.
Hired through the Norvinsk region authorities, BEAR's contract was the mirror image of USEC's: get inside TerraGroup's operations, uncover the evidence, and end the company's cover-up. The two PMCs fought as proxies wherever TerraGroup had something to hide, and in Tarkov the fighting became the Contract Wars.
When the region collapsed and the blockade cut it off, BEAR operatives were stranded alongside their USEC rivals, both reduced from soldiers with a mission to survivors with a rifle.
As a playable faction, BEAR characters speak Russian and carry an eastern loadout identity. The USEC and BEAR choice is mostly flavor, but Tarkov's story and voice lines lean into the rivalry constantly.
