Taran is a member of the Bogatyr squad, the BEAR recon unit you investigate through the Batya story chapter. Like his commander Voevoda, he is a story contact rather than a merchant: no shop, no barters, just a voice on the Intelligence Center radio with work for you.
You learn who Taran is the same way you learn everything about the Bogatyrs: by finding what they left behind. His personal file and postcard are among the squad effects you recover while retracing the unit's steps across their outposts.
When the squad's radio traffic shifts to Taran, the work gets personal: combat missions on the trail of the people who ambushed the Bogatyrs. It is the sharp end of the Batya arc, and finishing it is part of settling the squad's account.
