Chapter 7

Boreas

Follow a distress signal to the frozen icebreaker Boreas and uncover what Paradigm Shipping was really moving

Story Context

Rewards

  • Access to the Icebreaker and the Boreas evidence trail(story)
  • SZ-1 explosive charge purchase at Prapor LL1(unlock)

Objectives

0/19 complete
  • Start the chapter: obtain a Paradigm Shipping poster, or check the distress signal via the radio system at Intelligence Center level 3

  • Ask the traders about TerraGroup and Paradigm Shipping, or ask Mechanic where the distress signal came from

  • Locate and repair the equipment under the cellular tower on Woods (Toolset required), then report to Mechanic

    Woods

  • Locate and obtain the Paradigm Shipping documentation, then tell Mechanic about Boreas

  • Arrange transport to the icebreaker: hand the AMG-10 hydraulic fluid to Prapor. The extra cost depends on your Falling Skies case choice (nothing extra if you gave him the case; 3 found-in-raid Military power filters if you kept it; 30 kills on Reserve plus a yellow flare at the Woods transit if you never finished Falling Skies)

  • Find alternative transport: talk to the BTR Driver and complete his tasks (the exact tasks depend on your BTR quest history, up to burning Skier's reports on Customs and clearing smuggler territory)

  • Board the smuggler hovercraft on Shoreline. Optional but recommended: bring 400,000 roubles for the insertion, a green signal flare, and 2,500 euros for the evacuation

    Shoreline

  • Arrive at the icebreaker and check if any crew members survived

    Icebreaker

  • Access the engine room (optional: find the engine room keycard) and find a way into the superstructure

    Icebreaker

  • Ask Mechanic and Prapor about explosives, then break the chained door on the engine room roof with the SZ-1 explosive charge (sold by Prapor LL1 once unlocked)

    Icebreaker

  • Enter the superstructure from the engine room roof. Warning: The Wedge squad holds the crew quarters and a teargas tripwire is rigged at the entrance door

    Icebreaker

  • Reach level 5, find the code-locked door to the upper decks, and ask the surviving scientist (intercom on level 1, east side) about the code

    Icebreaker

  • Plant the hacking device in The Lab server room for the second code half (auto-completes if you already planted it in Blue Fire)

    The Lab

  • Use the access code, reach the upper decks, and thaw the frozen hatch on the bridge roof (a BBQ-S43 gas torch works)

    Icebreaker

  • Rescue the icebreaker captain

    Icebreaker

  • Access compartment C-1 and search the shelves, the workstation area, and the servers for the three hard drives

    Icebreaker

  • Help Mechanic decode the drives: hand over 3 Ultralink satellite modules, 4 server RAM modules, and 2 cryptographic processors, all found in raid (all can be looted on the icebreaker)

  • Analyse the icebreaker data, inform the scientist about the captain, and arrange the evacuation with the BTR Driver

  • Assist the smugglers against the Rogues: eliminate 20 targets on the icebreaker and hand 5 respirators to the BTR Driver

    Icebreaker

Boreas — Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start the Boreas chapter in Tarkov?

Two ways: find a Paradigm Shipping poster in raid, or build Intelligence Center level 3 and check the distress signal through its radio system. Either activates the chapter.

How do you get to the icebreaker?

Complete the transport arrangements with Prapor and the BTR Driver, then board the smuggler hovercraft on Shoreline. Bring 400,000 roubles for the insertion and 2,500 euros for the evacuation if you want the paid options, plus a green signal flare.

How do you open the chained door on the icebreaker?

Ask Mechanic and then Prapor about explosives, which unlocks the SZ-1 explosive charge at Prapor loyalty level 1. Place the charge on the chain of the damaged door on the engine room roof.

Does Boreas connect to the Blue Fire chapter?

Yes. Both chapters need the Local network hacking device planted in The Lab server room. Planting it in either chapter auto-completes the objective in the other, so you only make that Lab run once.

What is waiting inside the icebreaker superstructure?

The Wedge squad holds the crew quarters, and the entrance door is rigged with a teargas tripwire grenade. Clear them, then push to level 5 for the code-locked door to the upper decks.
